Beginning on January 1st, Austin and San Antonio have implemented a new hands-free law which prohibits the use of all electronic hand-held devices while operating a motor vehicle.

The hands-free ordinances passed by Austin and San Antonio are meant to keep drivers safe behind the wheel but what does this mean for hearing aid users?

Most new hearing aids are Bluetooth capable and use wireless streaming devices to keep you hands-free. The ReSound LiNX is made to directly connect with your iPhone so you can take a phone call directly inside your hearing aids. Other hearing aids use a wireless streaming device that connect your hearing aids to your phone (Android or iPhone). All major hearing aid manufacturers (such as Phonak, Starkey, ReSound, Oticon, Siemens, Unitron, and Widex) offer Bluetooth connection, though the styles and devices vary.  Many options are available on existing hearing aids, and can be added to your current hearing aid!

The new hands-free law helps hearing aid users not only stay safe while driving, but when using the right devices, can help them communicate and hear even better! Contact Central Texas Hearing Center in Austin or San Marcos for a free evaluation.
